Using PanPastels to create an art journal page background_

Hi Guys!! just thought I'd share a quick technique with you for the basis of mixed media art journal pages using PanPastels- if youve never used them they're so versatile- and can replace inks in scrapbooking, as well as for their obvious fine art applications.Ive coloured photos with them as well!!
So..
Step 1: apply a light application of a few colours using the Softtools....(some toolsbcome with the pans)

Step 2: take a wet paintbrush and wipe it across your PanPastel... paint a design onto your page..then, do it again with different colours...

Ok..so NOT the Mona Lisa- but you can see where I'm headed right??

Step 3: Squirt your page with a water spray- so this lots!! The, tip your page so the colours run,or for a more dramatic result, blow on it directionally with a straw in your mouth .

Can you see how the colours start to run, and the pigment breaks up on the page creating depth and texture??

Step 4: Using your Softtools, dab dry PanPastels back onto the wet page, the colour will pool ..its an awesome effect!!

So...heres' what the page is looking like now... I think it needs spraying again to make those pools run, then letting dry, and doing the whole process all over again!! Remember Mixed Media is about layers- the more the better. Follow this with some imagery, some text...maybe some more PanPastels brushed acroos the page..and youve got yourself a great technique for starting any Mixed Media piece!!!

So, here is my first art piece to share with you for 2012.

It started out life as a broken doll head and a sardine can....now, an 'Angel of the Apocalypse'.

Do you see the wee 7 horsemen of the apocalypse??

The script is actually a verse from Revelations- "The Angel with the tiny scroll.... ".

Sometimes art just happens all by itself. Just like this piece did.

Yep friends, the last blog post..For 2011.
I have been a BAD blogger...BAD!!! This year.
So if there is anyone left on the planet who actually reads my rare drivel...here goes.
The Lunatics' 2011 wrap up......

In 2011, I made the conscious decision to take a step back from scrapbooking for a while, to finally pick up on a dream Ive had for over 20 years- to study Art at University level.

Because I am a "first year"..we do a lot of exercises...but i am enjoying them.The practical work is my thing, totally, but I'm shocked to find out how much i still love theory and writing an essay or two. I'm thinking I might do a couple of creative writing/literature units for electives this coming study period..I forgot how much I really do love to write.
I really am going back to basics- learning how to see things again, and now look at my Archibald prize entry and understand why it never got a look in.(even though i still love my entry).

...Work has been great this year. You know that saying "You've got to kiss a lot of frogs before you find Prince Charming"?..well, that sure applies here. After 20 years in the hairdressing industry..with all the crap that goes on in salons-this place feels like home. Its a nice place to be.

And then...Of course, there were some road trips with my Bestie, Maree.....

We hit Camp Mojo in the Hunter Valley and met the BEST bunch of women ever!!! (no dampened spirits even though it pithed down the WHOLE time)..(hence our smurf outfits)..LOL
We did a scrap retreat to DAG station at Nundle with our Tamworth pals...(the most freezing but relaxing camp ever!!)
We hit the old frog and toad to Port Macquarie a few times too..and we ALWAYS have a blast. Every person should be blessed with a bestie gal buddy like Mine..shes the best!!
Of course, I cannot not mention I officially became the Mother of a teenager this year too..AAARGGH.
So proud of how shes growing up....fingers crossed it stays that way!! LOL...

..and then of course there is Master H.....a chip off the 'ol block if there ever was one....for him its been a year of trying really really hard to be good for the teacher and not talk too much in class......LOL..yeah..well..he tries.LOL
Talk too much?? Dont know where that comes from??? LOL..
I had a health scare this year- after many episodes of racing heart and severe palpitations a suspected heart attack. I was too heavy. Plain and simple. I want to see my Children grow up and have kids of their own. So..
I started the health kick thing.
Thanks to the Dukan diet....

I'm down 12 kilos, and well on my way to my goal of dropping 20 kilos by the time I hit 40.
Its really not just a diet- its a complete lifestyle overhaul, and I feel all the better for it.
Even better?? No more heart turns.At all.
Damn straight.
There has been so much that has happened this year- ups and some major downs- but all in all, I think it turned out a pretty great year.
A year of dreams come true, with some bloody hard work thrown in.
Best of all???
I have had my soul mate and best friend beside me the whole way. Sure, we may not be the most grown up people in the world- but what the hell, right??

So...thank you for reading my final post for 2011- and from me and mine to you and yours- Have a blessed and Happy New Year- may 2012 be the year of dreams for you too- and if 2011 has been sucky- may it all be forgotten by this time next year.

A homemade Christmas..

This is something I truly believe in.
Gifts made with the hands and heart mean more than any diamond ring, (well, at least to me).
However this year time has been VERY short.
So..my homemade Christmas gift list has been shortened somewhat.But it is one I was super excited to give.
So..the ONLY (*blush*) home-made gift i have given this year was to Mr H 's Godmother-who had eyed off a work I have hanging in my house.
So, I made her a version of- (and she loves it!!) :

All the papers are hand rusted and dyed- stitching, found objects and a little Collections image and a few Darkroom door images.
Making this was a gift for me too. Making things that I want to make is gloriously good for the soul.
So, I wish all of you a little of something gloriously good too.

Ok, so life has been a little hectic, and i have neglected the old blog for about 6 months..(yikes), but its time to share some stuff.
First though..I must shout out to my scrappy friends who entered the Scrapbooking Memories Masters' competition.. congratulations on your efforts!!!
A HUGE shout out to my beautiful buddies Kim Jeffress and Louise Nelson for making the famous Masters' list. For both of them, its a long overdue and very much deserved bit of loveliness, ..does the heart good.
Unfortunately, I didnt get time to play this year..i really do love giving the challenges a bash, but as many of you would know, I started studying this year.
Enough said really. Whoa!! there really is a reason we should study straight after highschool.., but Im giving it a good old bash anyway, 20 years later.
Ive just finished printmaking and textiles-

This is a textiles map...long story...but i love the textures in it...

But lets just say hello to the Simply Vanilla Blythe baby who came to live with me...(who looked like this)

...yeah..pretty and all..but NOW..
her name is RYDER..and she looks like this......(sorry not best photo but If i actually took some real ones...Id never get around to posting)

Isn't she adorable????? Shes had a mohair re-weft, new eye chips, extra eyelashes, a sucky mouth carved in and a new paint job....(my first attempt at carving a sucky mouth....not perfect..but i love her expression!!)
Why the red eyes??? Because I love me some creepy...Pretty is for girls!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!

So here she is with her sisters Cherri and Piper.....
Now all I need to do is find a little blue haired sister for them...(hehehehe)
So, I will finish this long overdue post with a simple message...

HULLOOOOOO!!!! My name is Deb..how ya doin??

Hi there!!!
I have been ridiculously absent. Thank you to everyone who has sent me a message or an email to check if Im alright..and yes, I'm fine!! Ive just been really really flat out..studying and home life..and work... and wotnot!!
Well...and then there's all the fabulous trips and retreats Ive been on.
So..heres a few bits and pieces Ive been up to...(just to prove Im alive!!)
So...I went to the fabulous Camp Mojo with my beautiful buddy Maree.....
we had a ball of a time....
it was wet..and cold....

..we used these beautiful plastic bags as raincoats to get us from here to there......
and it was definately worth a laugh....
and on top of Glee night performances, and MC Hammer impersonations and making some fabulous new friends...(especially table buddies Mik and Harrat!!*wink* *wave!!*).... I did actually do some actual scrapbooking : see:?????

...and i had a class with Rachel Greig and made some cards...(the top ones) and then I made some with the new Graphic 45 papers...as well as a mini album(still empty!!)

..and then we did a class with sarah Gladman..which was supposed to look awesome.... unfortunately I completely ruined it..so it became this:

...and then we wandered off to the Angels R scrappin retreat at DAG Station , Nundle....but not before a suspected heart attack put me in hospital for the day:

..Dont I look sexy???? Pshaw!! you lie!! LOL..
...Ive been having a few heart related issues for a while now..but this was the worst one..and it would seem that every time I end up under Doctors observation..the symptoms disappear...so that stinks..but...at least this time there was no damage to my heart..so thats good!! It seems I have really low blood pressure...and we have congenital heart defects in the family, I just need them to work out what mine is!!!(Did I mention i also gave up coffee due to this heart thing..in case it helps??? #notverymuchbloodyfunIcantellyou))
So..off to Dag the very next day for some R&R;
and a bit more actual scrapbooking!!!

..and then theres Uni....
Ive been studying for my Bachelor of Fine Arts since the start of the year..and so far Im averaging High Distinctions..until I got to Internet Design....hardest thing I have ever done in my life!!! Challenging..but i still manged to pull a credit....so Im happy with that..(more so that its over!!LOL)..and now Im on to printmaking and Textiles..(WAAAY MORE my scene..)Heres the Transformation art journal i made for Printmaking class...every single part of it is upcycled or repurposed...(oh..except for the 7 Gypsies journal handles)hehehehe

..and then...we got a new baby in the house...
After much harping, and begging and super cute baby talk...Miss M got her very own puppy....

This is Ellie!!!She is a little maltese..about 11 weeks old in this photo..and it is beautiful how much they love each other..so cute!!
We have also added a couple of goats to the menagerie:

Meet Laverne and Shirley!!! I love them so much..theyre really inquisitive..and friendly...just like big puppy dogs.
On the arty front... Theres lots of bits and pieces happening..but probably nothing interesting enough to share right now...but needless to say....I feel my style is changing so much, and Uni is really opening my eyes to things I never knew about- things I am busting to try.... so i should perhaps share some art journal pages with you- just so you can see..
but that is , in a nutshell what ive been up to since June...(amongst other stuff)..but lastly and most importantly-
this week i found out someone very special to me has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
It is a huge shock to all of those who know and love her, but i know in my heart she will fight this thing with style, grace and flair so few people have.

Big Ummah turns into pretty patchwork....

Last night while making some pretties with resin..the lunatic(who is also a very big clutz) spilled a whole bottle of resin on her art table.
Now if you've ever worked with resin, you'll know its sticky gear.And once i wiped it off, the table- she didnt look so healthy...(apart from all the paint spatters on her).
So, this morning I woke up with a brainwave, nay an epiphany!!
I have so many beautiful scrapbook papers Im not using at the minute..so why not give the table a facelift??
So, after a few I dare yous' and do its' from my facebook pals..here is the blow by blow..

Le Table... before..(see the paint spills?? sheesh and i was supposed to be keeping this table in good order..)) ..and really, how boring is it??

so..a little sanding...

work out the look by laying out my chosen papers....

Glue the papers down well using a good wood glue..or in my case..craft glue...and then give it a good go over with a brayer.... (oh, and note my favourite piece of paper ever is smack bang in the middle of the table..you know that piece you buy 50 of because you love it so?? LOL; Love, Elsie papers if youre wondering)

See...all stuck down..now off to the hardware shop for some lacquer!!

When I got back..I thought it needed something...so, a little inking around the edges..(of course!!) LOL...

Rolled on the first coat of lacquer.....

I'm using this...(its the only one they sell at Kootingal on a Sunday morning)

VOILA!!! First coat done... but my pretty patchwork table will need about 4 more. Much prettier, yes??

Sad thing is..now I have to clean my messy art room, because the table looks so nice...the rest of my art room looks dreadful!!!
Aaaah..such is life!!

Uni work...

Hullo!!! yup..thats pretty much all Ive been doing of late-Uni work..so I havent anything too exciting to share...but I thought Id show you one of my collage pages....and an altered book I made from one of the Units I have been studying.
So, perhaps not my usual standard or style of work..but I have to do what the Teachers say..yes???
ahem.... well, mostly!!

..Ok..so Maybe occasionally is a little generous.
I have been absent, I know.
I have been a very busy gal with work, home, and most of all University.
My decision to study has been 20 years coming..but now i am , Im soo stoked to be doing it.
Whoever would have thought that I would get such a big kick out of writing essays about conceptualism and modern art??
LOL..
So, sadly, the crafting has gone by the wayside a little..however..as a "im so sorry Ive been absent".. I thought i might share one of my "how to" videos.just for fun.
Its pretty basic, but if youve ever wanted to try mixed media and didnt know where to start....heres a good basic how to to get you started.
Have a go if you want to...(note: I think i refer to the Kit...which is an old Tarisota collection..but you can make do with stuff from your stash!!)

Ode to a star...

so. I can say now that I didnt make it in to the Archibald exhibition...which means I can share this pic of my painting and my lovely subject.
Such a steep learning curve for me, painting an actual person...and this painting is so very stylized still..but its all about the subject. All of it.
it is huge. Its about 2 metres tall by a metre and a half or so wide. Took me about 6 months, off and on....and it has truly been a labour of love and I cant wait til it comes home..
More than anything?? Its an ode to one of the biggest, twinkliest stars in my sky.

What is it??? Its big!!!! thats what it is..took me about 6 months from start to finish..
Am I happy with it?? Yes.

Its officially on its merry way...
Can i tell you who i painted?? Not yet.But I can tell you this person has had a HUGE influence on my life as it is right now..and i will forever be thankful...more than that person will ever know.
Do i expect to win??

Why did i do it??
because I wanted to.and thats good enough for me.

Muse in a Box-assemblage

..just thought Id share the piece i made for the Camp Mojo challenge for this month...you had to use stamping on fabric....
so..I did....and came up with this..
I used my favourite Stampin Up" stamps....plus a whole bunch of mediums and bits and pieces..and used some of Mr DeMengs paint formulas....plus some of my own.
I love working this way......bit dark..creepy..but with a sense of humour...

"Pocketful of Starlight" up for auction!!

..so, if you know me well..you know i have an obsession with Blythe dolls..I love their big eyes so....and this painting (16inch x 12 inch, mixed media on canvas..edges painted black and sealed) definately has Blythe as its Muse......but its inspiration is from the kids that have lost all THEIR toys in the QLD floods. Their homes, their precious families..their safe places...and yet..watching them on the news , they still smile...and are SO READY to help clean up.
Kids are the bomb...they are little pockets full of starlight.
Anyhoo..enough of my drivel...you can buy this painting..there is an auction going on here.
All monies raised goes to Qld flood victims.
There are heaps of awesome creations up for auction there too..so if the painting isnt your thang..maybe something else is!!!

..so another art journal page down....I had a go at Teesha Moore style art journalling this time....I love her work so much...
a lot of the images were cut from tattoo mags and frankie(only the best mag ever!!!!)...I used a lot of crayon, paint and pens too...soooo much fun!!
and then... a couple of "announcements"...
..so, a sad face....Why??
well, i made a decision this year that facebook and me have to part ways a little. I find i spend too much time on it..so i have decided to clean up my friends list...you know , limit those who have access to what im up to..all my arty, scrappy , creative and real friends and family will stay..but thats all. No offence to anyone at all, really...just trying to make my addiction a little easier to break...LOL...
also...I will be moderating comments on here too..because i had a couple of pointlessly nasty comments about a couple of posts..and although you are entitled to your opinion...if you're going to leave nasty comments on stuff..at least have the guts to tell me who you are so i can stand up for myself..anonymous comments will remain..but ill be checking them over first!!!
well..thats enough sad faces....

...one of the great things about art journalling is you can get your frustrations out...and you can make a statement..a record of things that happen in your life...just expressed visually...all along with the fun of playing with your art goodies. So, I decided to do this..(thanks to a little nudge from my energizer bunny pal Sherry Mendoza)
the deal is you sign up with a promise to commit yourself to sit down (or stand up!!) to do 10 minutes minimum art journalling every day for a month.
I cannot finish an art journal page in 10 minutes..true...but..10 mins multiplied over a few nights means i have finished page one..(hard to show you how much texture is in this page by photo)..lets just say its gonna be a bumpy journal!! LOL
Ive used penicil, crayon, ink, luminarte paints, graphite, impasto medium and vintage book paper....
just for fun!!!

Well, its here.. The last day of 2010.
So much to look back on and smile about.
Birthdays for happy boys...

anniversaries to celebrate another year together...

adventures with people i love so much.....

and beautiful girls blossoming ..and some serious moving on from one phase of her life to the next...
Renovations starting to look done...

I am so grateful for the blessing of my family....and my true friends..and an extended family that is so close.
For the friendship of those both near and far..
and yes..I have to say it..for facebook...twitter...and the internet in general.Without them I wouldnt have "met" so many wonderful people.Thank you for the honour of allowing me into your home and circle of friends....(be it ever so distant)
For the opportunities I have been offered to encourage the artist in me....and for the honour of being asked to create for so many wonderful people and places this year...
and above all....
I thank God most of us made it out alive...and well.
2010 was a good year.
But it was a hard year...
the loss of friends,
mental illness,
career difficulties,
crossroads issues...
goodbyes,
difficult decisions...
hard lessons learnt on so many fronts....
but i am thankful for them..because i know they have made me stronger as a person..and like they say..what doesnt kill us..right???
For all the bad in 2010...
theres a song for that..
and to those people who have "taught me a lesson" the hard way....
theres a song for that too...
"With all the pain in my chest.. I still wish you the best"..and i say..

Done and dusted...

Heres to hoping you had a fabulous Christmas Day..
we here at the Godley house had the best and busiest day.
As always too much food, and this time I made Margarita slushies to sip while we opened gifts=hot and a headache!!! but oh, so yummy....

our dear little man woke at 2 am ..so excited..and i think we hunted him back to bed every 15 minutes after that until we decided to get up at 5 am....(he just couldnt wait anymore, Mummy!!)
so by 5pm we were all well and truly knackered!!!

Our beautiful girl got her wish..a guitar of her own

and a real amp..(Peavey Viper)..

and our boy got his drum kit...

a very musical Christmas..and we now officially have the noisiest house in the street.

My darling sister got a new baby too..his name is Harry.

He was a gift from her hubby..and Im proud to say i helped find him...(Damo and i make quite the pair of secret squirrels) Harry is the Sweetest little puppy.He is so perfect for her....(and her kids think hes pretty great too)

It was a great day..so many wishes fulfilled...mine was for a happy day with my family where no one was stressed out ,and lots of laughter and smiles and it was really, just a beautiful day. I am blessed that I can spend Christmas with my family..and my heart goes out to those who cannot. Although Im sad its over for another year...it was a lovely happy one..and I sincerely hope yours was too....
For us, 2010 has been one of those bittersweet years...lots of lovely memories..but mixed in with some incredibly difficult times for us personally, and also for those we are closest to.
So, it was a sweet way to finish out the year.
A dear friend of mine (who is a numerologist) told me 2010 was the year for challenge and struggle...and man, was she right.
She said 2011 will be a year of completion. so...lets see what that brings, huh??

A bit of a Masters Entry share...

Well, now that the Scrapbook Memories Masters edition is out..I can share my projects!!!
I was fortunate to receive two honourable mentions this year...and I humbly thank those who picked my work for the very special edition, and am humbled to be in a book with so many talented people!!
My favourite layout was this one..(not in the mag)..It had to be a layout that included something not bought at a scrapbook shop..so i used these delicious old glasses i found at a garage sale..
...the photos i used were taken with my iphone, Hipstamatic applications..i love these photos from our trip to brissy in June.

Then there was the double featured in the mag..(sorry didnt take it off the wall for the pic..soooo unprofessional i know..but ya get that..and i forgot to take a photo before i sent it..so this is it)LOL..
..my favourite part of this was the the little vintage girl i cut from an old kids book in the bottom left corner..Teehee...
and then my favourite project...as always was the off the page one..and the challenge was to create something that was useful around the house....
so, i decided to take something already useful..a vintage aluminium teapot..and turn it into something altogether unrelated but useful just the same...A sewing station...with my favourite theme of all time...Alice In Wonderland....hehehe
Its a bot hard to show you, but its a
red Queen castle inside, made from collections houses....with needles, thread, scissors, bobbins etc inside...sitting on a green felt garden/pin cushion complete with mote and red and white rose garden (pins)....the lid has a light you can push in so you can see what youre grabbing...the spout holds a tape measure, the handle the cottons...(and the little resin hat???I love my hat!!)
and the whole teapot was covered with vintage Alice in Wonderland book paper....
see inside???..I also used the playing cards from graphic 45s' Halloween in wonderland.
..super fun to make.Im stoked it made it into the magazine.
So thar ya go.

Christmas is soooo on its way..and one of the nicest things about Christmas is the Tarisota free printable Recipes each year. this is my recipe...well, actually its my addition..but i didnt come up with the recipe.
Strawberry loaves for Christmas brekky....YUM!!!!
So make sure you pop on over and take a look...
and..can i say a BIG thank you to all those lovely people who wished me well for the Masters this year.
I do love the challenge and frankly, would have a major cow if i ever was named one..(seriously..I chew my nails at the "but what if i got in" prospect every time i enter.My hubby says" what the bloody hell do you enter for if you dont want to win??"....but its really about the challenge for me.
Perhaps once upon a time it was all i ever wanted..but the last 3 years...definately not.
Without sounding like a bad sport..(because i really dont mean it that way)..
I enter with the hope of NOT making it in. I just hope for an honourable mention..seriously..Im perfectly chuffed with that, and i have been fortunate for the past 3 years to have one..lets see if i can make it to 4???(is the mag out yet?? does anyone know???)
A special thank you to Bev, Kylie and Julie..i love you guys!! You know how to make a gal feel special.thank you for your input..i seriously did try and comment back..but for some reason..bloglines wouldnt let me comment back!!! AAARGH!!!
I do agree though...scrapbooking is taking a bit of a dive here in Australia..shops closing left and right..it would be nice to see a wider view of the industry being included in the magazines.One cant help but wonder if it would inject some new interest in our beloved craft. Diversify and conquer I say!!!People whose work is a little left of centre like Louise Nelson and Linda Baldock are the future of Scrapbooking in this country..i really believe that.
thats quite enough prattling for me i should think....

Into the Wild.....

Sometimes something will come along that rocks you to your core, that affects the way you look at your life..the "how did i get here"..and the "where am i going"....
this is one of those things...a movie based on a true story.
At face value, this is an adventure movie..an exploration of one mans' fuelled desire to do that which was in his heart.
But on looking further , it is a revelation...a portrait of the importance of honest parenting, and unencumbered love..the kind that loves for no reason but love itself..the pure joy of giving that love..with no expectation of something in return.
That violence and lies carries a legacy through the ages...that will eventually surface and destroy..and that these times of plenty are really only an illusion..a facade that when touched , fragments away before our eyes, making us realise our cup is not full..but completely empty.
This movie made me want to pack up my family and live life as my ancestors did..roaming the land free...but above all..it makes me want to hold each one closer that I might let them go into the world with the knowledge that i will love them no matter where life takes them, whoever they become, whoever they love, whatever they do.
"Happiness only becomes real when it is shared"
A wasted life? Or a life with a message for the ages?
you decide.
But I urge you..if you havent watched this already..do it.
I cannot help but think it is a lesson we were all meant to hear..

I went to the Angels R Scrappin' scrapbook Retreat at Lake Keepit!!
Was JUST what the Doctor ordered....
I even made stuff...wanna see?
First...there was the Canvas "Glitz and Glamour" challenge..made this!!!

Then..there was a name tag challenge.. made this!!!

Then there was the Sketch challenge..Did this!!:

..and finally got around to doing something with my 7 Gypsies art tray......
...very happy with that!!! Did the heart good to just sit and create...and giggle quietly ...(the laryngitis decided to act up last weekend!!)
So now all thats left to do?
Clean up the unpacked brothel that is my art room!!

*Sigh*...life gets in the way of what we love to do sometimes...I personally have been working through some personal issues in regards to my career...and so, the mojo went on holidays. But!!
How sweet it is when, you face the demons and choose your new path..make your destiny happen....
..and then, like magic..the mojo returns. This is my latest painting....I call it "Blue Willow"..for the moment anyway..LOL... she stands quite tall..almost as tall as me..(pshaw..so really its quite short!!))
She shall hang in my new kitchen...
As for my career?
Do you see the cherry on top???
Ive decided to take that cherry..and make a meal of it..dammit!!

How to make a kitchen steps one through AAAARGH!!!!

Hullooo!!!
Well, because you've been asking, (and I do love to share..LOL)Here is a very brief before and after kitchen post....
So..the kitchen renovation goes like this:
From this:
A makeshift kitchen on a scrapping table..
To this:
Granite benchtops..white 2 -pac doors and yummy red kitchenny bits.
So pretty...everything new.
Lovely Lovely...

and then...
unfortunately,
to this:
In the middle of baking a roast,we heard an almighty smashing noise..and the oven glass on my brand new oven blew up all over the kitchen.The pile on the floor is some of the glass we swept up from all over the kitchen...The oven was a Daniela.
So its not nearly as pretty as it was.But it will be better..I have a new oven on the way...
So now? Its time to move on to the bathroom. ..
Maybe I'll have a little rest first though....

Since the Country Paperarts Retreat finished, I have been madly renovating my kitchen..and let me say..its almost done..I will share pics soon....just waiting on one small addition first...
What have you been up to??? Share!!!
Me??I had a notion I needed a cupcake bearing girl on my wall in the kitchen..so I have a large painting on the go....will share some soon..
but I have also been doing a couple of challenges for the upcoming Camp Mojo..
this is they:
..a teensy little ATC.... using the sketch offered...
..and the red white and blue challenge led to this little postcard sized number...
..this is one of the projects I taught on last months' Tarisota Style School... its an altered jewellery box using my favourite papers in the whole world...Graphic 45...*sigh*
..and some of you may remember the tiny little hand painted portrait pendants i made last year...well..Im over that for now..LOL..but Ive been making some collage jewellery..my beautiful friend Lisa and I are going to have a stall at the Tamworth Town markets before Christmas .....*squeal* so therell be some of my pretties (inspired so much by the two loveliest gypsies I know)there for sale....

and then..theres something I want to show you that Ive been meaning to...
a lovely lady from school, Tanya...asked me if I would be able to help her find some owls for a tattoo she wanted to have...I couldnt find any that i thought fitted what she was after..so, I drew some...and she had them tattooed on her back exactly as I drew them!!!
She will have colour added as time goes on, and shes promised to share pics when she does..but this is it!!
...How cool is that!!!!! They look awesome in skin!!.she wanted them to signify herself and her beautiful 2 babies...cant wait to see them coloured!!!

Gone are the pretty, rippable, not enough room anywhere totes and scrapbooking trolleys for me.
I have met the storage love of my life.Wanna see inside?

...*oh,* dear, I think Im getting all hot and bothered...papers, cardstock, cutters, massive amounts of letters, canvasses, art journals, stamps and whatever-the-hell-else fit in the bottom.
My Distress inks and ink pads, my embossing powders, my paints. my sewing stuff, all go in the super deep sections in the middle, and my pencils, and crayons, and brad boxes and buttons and whatnot go in the top.
*OMG*.
And it folds out so i can use it like a proper workstation..and it has to big fat super sexy wheels and is easy to wheel!!
If I added up what I have spent on all my other portable storage attempts over the years..I could have had about...4..nay, 5 of these!!
And all I needed was this one beautiful hunk of tool box.
I have also traded in my girly tool tote..again..
For a big, fat craftright tool tote..

I have to share this with you.
My whole life. It was about survival.
It has been about survival.
Then, I found art. Again.
..and it began in me the opening of doors, of letting in the sunshine and allowing myself to sit quietly and drink it in, and to smile..from the inside out.
Of allowing myself to enjoy all that has been given to me.
A beautiful man, and 2 gorgeous children, and amazing friends.
Sure, I almost slipped into that.."how do I make money out of it" phase.
But someone very wise once said to me
"the minute you start trying to make money out of something that you love..
pretty soon, you wont love it any more..because you HAVE to do it."
So right.
For me..its about the meditative process..the freedom that comes with creating. The joy that comes with sharing what you know. The elation at learning something new.The tingle that happens when someone gets it.
Sure, I know I am not the best artist in the world..sheesh, probably not even in my house!!
But I am the best artist I can be for me. For fun.For freedom.For life.
And you can too.
So..quit telling yourself you cant..and do it.
Watch Suzis' videos.

How to make a new kitchen..step one..

Make a tired old kitchen look worse and make a huge mess by removing overhead cupboards and tiles ,mini orb and oven.
Apparently that is step one.
Will show you step two when Im up to it.
Uggh.
On the upside, I got to hit the cupboards with a 4 pound mallet and make HUGE noise. I Also got to smash tiles and throw things from a great height and watch them smash..
*chills*
Now that bit, was crazy fun. LOL.

..and then..today for luch, in our ugly kitchen we made these:
Cheese and bacon scrolls, and cheese and vegemite scrolls. I found this recipe in an old womans' day(?) mag while waiting for take-away chinese, so I took a picci with the trusty iphone.
Quite yummy and easy as falling off a log!!

Scrolls:
2 cups SR flour
30g butter (chopped)
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
*variant:
1/4 cup mixed herbs and garlic

Preheat oven to a hot 220 degrees C. Grease a scone tray. Into a bowl, place flour, Add butter and rub through.(stir in your herbs now if using the variant)
Make a well in the centre of the flour. Pour in combined milk and water all at once, reserving about 1 tablespoon of liquid. Using a knife, mix quickly to a soft sticky dough. Dont over mix (theyll be tough as ol' boots!).Turn onto a lightly floured surface, knead gently. Press or roll out to form a rectangle about 1cm thick.
Then spread:
1 cup grated cheese
4 rashers bacon
1 shallot or 1/4 leek, sliced

OR:
1 cup grated cheese
slatherings of vegemite.

(Do one or the other..not both together)ewww!
over the dough rectangle you have created.
Roll it up carefully towards you. Squish it a bit so that it is a tight roll.Cut into about 5 cm thicknesses (or thicker if you like) and arrange, cut side up, on your prepared tray, and brush lightly with reserved liquid.Bake for 15-20 mins until scrolls sound hollow when tapped. Cool, or eat hot...store in an airtight container..if theres any left!!
I was thinking I might have a bash at making ones with apple in the middle, and icing the top..mmmm..yummy!!!

The Happy Wanderer ...

..is home.
My perhaps longest serving friend (LOL) Maree , My Mum and My Sister Renee went on a little wander across the state with me last week..with the purpose of attending the Brisbane Scrapbook and Papercraft expo.
We arrived in Brissy Friday arvo, and the first thing we did was join this beautiful lady
and this beautiful lady at Carina Tattoos for some additions to my collection..(and theirs!!)
...my new addition was this red polka dot bow Gary did for me..(FREEHAND!!)...he is a super talented tattooist...(and yes..it was looking a bit oochy here..my shoulder is quite swollen here and I bruised like a mutha!!!)LOL..will have to take a fresh photo..its nearly all healed now...
Then..after we checked in to our lodgings...off to South Bank for a market wander...

Ree and I got to go to the Ron Mueck exhibition at the Museum of modern Art....
the most fascinating,amazing confronting thing...

She was huge!!! (Thats me by her nose)she was big too!!!!.....you were just waiting for her to cry that first cry.....
..and the wild man here..completey creeped us out..his eyes watched you wherever you went, and you were seriously expecting him , at any minute to stand up, stretch..and say..."well its off to lunch for me..back soon..". The most lifelike, amazing statements...I cant say enough how much I enjoyed it....
We went to the Expo Saturday and Sunday..met some fabulous people, did some fabulous classes, spent some fabulous moneys..LOL...
(hipstamatic pic)..me and the fabulous Sarah Gladman....even more gorgeous in real life...

I got to meet Louise Nelson in real life..super sweet,(and only marginally taller than me )sickeningly talented woman...LOL..and the equally as sickeningly talented Peg Hewitt...
Sherry Mendoza and me...this gal is fun!!
..and it was a super hoot to meet Lynette Van Barrello...I wanted to keep her..shes funny.*hehehehe*.
..and then..after it was all over....and after a small flat battery episode..
Ree and I hit the Gold Coast!!!..a little beach...

a coffee with someone fabulous and then some!!!(please dont hit me ..I havent had time to edit yet!!)
(eeegads...I do look a little worn out, huh!!)
and then...home to the cold weather..
(doncha just love that APP?..took this out the window as we were driving home )

but warmed by the fact that we had an AWESOME holiday...and the fact that we still had the best place to go to yet...

Le Art Room Makeover....before and after..

Ok, well Ive been whingeing about the state of my art room for some time..(as has my whole family)..and its finally done. Now that its done...Im disgusted in the state of it before!! *blush*...
lets hope it stays that way!!(if it doesnt Im a dead duck!!)
Ok..so here goes..yes..its bad..its very very bad..
BEFORE:
Note that I have open shelves....cardboard boxes full of junk....and family sewing needs draped over any available object.
My desk when Im making stuff..... OMG what a craphole!!(ahem..scuse the language!)
Bookcase..full of magazines I havent read in like 4 years..and projects just chucked about..*sheesh*broken DVD players just floating about...(was planning to bash it up for its innards)
My easel jammed in a corner with bad light and in front of my favourite prints, power cords randomly hanging about and my paints in a box on the floor!!!(OMIGOSH!)
Yes...a bloody mess..but, it my mess..and when I get creative its just what happens I guess...
I am a hoarder...I keep everything..just in case.....I get that from my Grandmother...
but I was finding my head was becoming as cluttered as my room...so on to the makeover...

AFTER:

Pretty huh? My darling hubby and I went to Bunnings and bought a budget flat pack modular kitchen and built it ..plenty of room to put all my papers, tools, embellishments, junk, stamp collections, fabric,paints, mediums and other whotnots... We painted my bookcase white, and I inherited the family dining room table (cause we need a new one)

This is the view from behind my new desk...looking at my computer desk/officey bit.Painted the desk white too...(looks like I might have painted the chair a little too..LOL)...
The computer area is MUCH better..phew!!!
..a little closer look... the big space is reserved for a new painting Im doing for myself... I gave my Mum the Pretty rainbow girl with the Rose in her hair because she loves her so....
MY easel and my trolley..painting area for me!!!( Lots of natural light there..its the best spot to paint!!!)..
And do you like my birdcage in the trees??? Its a stickon..got it on ebay for like $13...so cute!!!
See the bench space on the "kitchen"..Lots of room for drying projects..a lovely inconspicuous corner for canvasses,..and of course a new home for my beautiful Cherri and Piper girls :)..not to mention my beloved Prismacolour pencil collection....
Not the best shot...but these shelf frames come from Bunnings...supercute way to display my (very precious )Grandmothers' old cameras..
Shelves look nicer white...and I can see my ribbons again!!!..and this beautiful vintage typewriter I was given by one of my clients!!! (Thanks Sharon!!MMWWAA!)not to mention the cute little chicky Montana gave me...
..My Emily Martin print collection....all together where nothing can be put in front of them..*sigh*..and the guitar I altered 100 years ago...do you like the new blinds?? On spesh at Spotlight..and Im in love with them!!!
The wall colour is a Nippon paint colour called "Summersea" ..so perfect..(of course Shane cried when he saw the first coat put on..he doesnt like it so much..but..my room, my rules..yes??)LOL...
So there ya go..One new art room for me...hope youve enjoyed walking through my new art room..now to make a mess!! LOL

Why do I need help???
Well, I had a man come to the house..cause he had to do a value thingy.. (thats a whole other story)..but when he took one step inside the house (straight into my art room)and said"And what is THIS room SUPPOSED to be?" in a slightly disgusted tone..(blush)..
I figured its possibly time to have a clean out...and a clean up...and perhaps a restyling altogether.
Which is something I have been thinking about for a long time..I am finding there is so much clutter now I cant work in it......hmmm...perhaps ot the best situation...LOL
so ive been searching for inspirational spaces...so far Ive come up with these:
LOVE the table space..clear and lovely in this one....and all the colour co-ordinated buckets of bits and pieces...
I want this whole room..but I am sooo painting the walls this colour..and I think I want the table covered in spots.......
I want to live here..this is part of Teesha Moores' studio..*sigh*
I love the table idea here...and black is great!!!
OOO..look at the beautiful white table..although..I dont think it would stay that colour long at my house...and I love the green..but ive just painted the bathroom that colour..;)
I need help!!!

Last year and early this year I was honoured to have been asked to be the "Guest Artist In Residence" over at Tarisota ...and I had such a lovely time..I was soo honoured to be a part of such a beautiful thing, and be numbered among people who have been personal idols...idols and heroes.
Well, Tarisota has been on a little break...and is coming back soon....with a new look and heaps of exciting new 'stuff'..(insert vigorous clapping)..
and the best bit is..(well, for me at least LOL) Tamar has asked me to stay..and be a fully fledged part of the Tarisota team!!!
*sigh* so happy to be able to be a part of such a beautiful thing..and hopefully I can in some way inspire others the way the beautiful and inconceivably talented team at Tarisota have always inspired me....

Like Mathew Gray Gubler...aka Dr Reid on CRIMINAL MINDS..but..apart from being easy on the eye...and damn good at playing the Doc, he is a most talented artist..his sketch work is to die for...see here

...Its so nice to see these guys back and with a new album.."Hey Soul Sister" is another song im loving to death right now(once again, much to the disgust of miss M)....I love this band.

This beautiful Lady Maria Wiley..you can see some of her gorgeous work here ..she is having a Solo exhibition in August...check out her blog for details...
Pan Pastels...Im in love with these....I managed to talk the lovely Kylie at Woopi Doo in Tamworth to get some in for me..they are to die for!! Use them on your layouts instead of ink for a dreamy look, lots of colour too..or use them in your art journals, or even better..do some pastel works with them!!I LOVE them!!!
..lol..weeny picci...but Good new Week is still a beautiful way to start the week..nothing like a good belly laugh or seven...Did you know I once wanted to be a stand up??..but now I know I would never have cut it like these guys do..LOL
...I love this paper company...its nice to be in love with paper again..but these guys make it soooo easy to be that way. Seems the scrapper in me has come home to roost!! Woohooo!!!

Well..it would seem my poor Etsy shop has been a little neglected. I havent added anything new for a looong time.
I am thinking it might be time to simplify...
Sometimes, you know , there are just not enough hours in the day...
and someone very wise once told me that "The minute you start to try and make money out of something you love..it stops becoming something you love and starts becoming more like a chore"..
..and I honestly dont think I ever thought I was going to be rich..LOL...just a nice way of giving homes to things that i make..
So, at least for a little while..I think i shall close the shop..
at least for a while...
maybe next week Ill change my mind..LOL.....

If every single person on this planet could learn to ACCEPT that we are all different, that we will not all believe in the same God...but that we are all flesh and blood and that we all have a right to breathe, to freedom, to love, and to feel safe ..

A Goddess or two???

What've you all been up to?? Busy makin' stuff??? Well I have...and...
I have been fortunate enough to have had two projects published this month. One in Scrapbook memories, the other in Scrapbook Creations...and funnily enough, they both had Goddess themes....how I love that word!!!
I havent submitted in a while...so its really nice when the magazines accept your work...gives you that warm fuzzy feeling all over..LOL
I thought I would show you a(inferior quality photograph) but a closer look at what i did this month??
Scrapbook Memories:
This month is Mothers' Day month, so I made a Mothers' Day project for the arty farty Mum...full instructions are in this months' Scrapbook Memories....
This is the cover..its a soft journal/pencil/paintbrush wallet...
..inside.....
..and this is the teeny little moleskine art journal to play in.....
and then there was the Scrapbook Creations Top Ten Journals:

..this is the outside of my journal...I used a 7 Gypsies blank journal as a base...(and, incidentally..My name isnt next to this one in the Mag..slight technical hitch meant that someone elses' photo was put next to my Materials list and blurby thingy....)
..and this is the inside..all ready to alter....and journal and wotnot in....
the truth is i havent really been doing too much scrapbooking of late...so it was nice to play with some papers again..(So much so that Im really looking forward to having a play with some Sassafrass papers i bought at AngelsRScrappin yesterday)....
So thats it...two publications this month...good for a sit with a coffee I guess...
and then?........
Ive been busy making a series of 4x6 ATCs' for my favourite Mixed media site..Lovin' Mixed Media...
were doing a swap!!! YAY!!! 10 went off to England today..and I have kept these two...cant help it..Im a hoarder!! LOL...

As is always the case of late..My head is full of altered things....and the search for the parts that I need to make them...and so, after a long history of looking about...luck was on my side today..and the generosity of a super talented and big hearted, big smiled local artist..Glenys Mann . (Seriously...the most AMAZING artist..go look at her work...OMG!!)
...I literally ran into her in town this afternoon while on my search for the perfect base for my next piece.., and after a visit to her studio, I came home with a new family member, affectionately called "Tippy" because Glenys rescued her from the tip!!!
Isnt she fabulous????
Can NOT WAIT to play with her!!!
(Cant wait to see if we manage to frighten Shane when he gets home from work!! LOL)

I recently completed an online course with one of my art world heroes-Michael De Meng..and this is the first piece Ive created after the class...I did it as a slide show..well..because I wanted to!! ..and because I initially made it for the Gary Reef website...but I guess I wanted to show you I havent fallen down a hole..Im still making stuff!!LOL...
I have to say..the music, by Evanescence is not mine..Amys' voice is an angels' and her music fits this piece perfectly..and lets face it..It would be a boring video if it were quiet, huh?..So I own nothing.but use it respectfully....Thiis is "The Blood Is the Life"... It is my homage to one of my all time favourite films...Bram Stokers' Dracula starring Gary oldman, Winona Ryder , Sir Antony Hopkins and Keanu Reeves.

This darling man and I have been together 20 years in August, and on Feb 12, we celebrated 16 years of marriage.
We look a little different...gone is his 90's rock star hair, and he has more facial hair and tattoos...Im a lot wrinklier and gawd knows a hell of a lot wider..were parents now, and our commitments list is a hell of a lot longer....
but when were together we are still those kids we were 20 years ago....enjoying every second of each others' company...just as great mates, and just as in love.....
its nice to know some things never change.

Tarisota goodness..

This is my last month as the Tarisota "Designer In Residence"...and because of Tamars' technical difficulties..she said it would be ok to share a project with you before the gallery goes up..
I love this layout so much..because it is about my Grandmother.
I dont remember much about her....she died when I was only young..but, like me she was the family photographer.

Im a stinky shopper...wandering around a big fat shopping mall sounds like torture..but!! I LOVE to wander through the shops on Etsy...
I wanted to share some yummy things I have found..
I must say...Im feeling very excited about Autumn being around the corner..these things would look fabulous in my house..*sigh*

In our house, my daughter and I have been locked in a battle over "He who is the hottest most awesome and most lovable vampire"....this was my champion... Eric.....a more than worthy contender...(ROWR)

This was her champion...Edward..... *ahem*....yes, quite nice...but..soo young...
But after much argument, ogling and heady discussions..... It would seem that we have come to agree that this particular fellow..is the" Vampire to defeat all Vampires "in our house....

His name? Mick St John....(Alex O'Loughlin)..

Treasures I have found...

So, now that I have Saturdays off...one of the first things I wanted to do with them..was do over the garage sales..you know, get up early, buy the paper...and go from one to the next..to the next..
and so I did that this morning..dragging my Mother and children with me..
this is what i came home with... This gorgeous old first aid box...glorious glasses with one lens missing..and a jar full of these scrummy old handles..
all for a song!!!
I also snaffled a Moulin Rouge book.....that shall become subject to Mr Scissors...LOL...
ooo..I do love a good garage sale....
